What do we have in the rooms of our three areas: physical, mental, and spiritual?
a) Physical. As a species we have accumulated a great deal of knowledge, yet as individuals we barely scratch the surface of it. Some people specialize in specific fields — botany, physics — to expand what we collectively know, and there is still plenty of room to grow. From the individual's perspective, however, a basic understanding of cells, chemistry, astronomy... are part of a solid foundation.
b) Mental. This is the main room for the methods we use to manage knowledge — both in our minds and in external devices. The key is to build mental models, patterns, and rules that guide us when facing both the known and the unknown.
c) Spiritual. We must make room in this area for the spiritual — because we must guard against the hubris of pure logic and the belief in mental superiority. The balance comes from nourishing ourselves with knowledge and experience in love, service, and the search for truth. We must keep plenty of tools in this room: ethics, moral philosophy, and the great questions of existence.
Having balance among these three areas, we will move toward an ethical society and brotherhood — and in time, toward peace. This is how a mature species can live together: making their mission the development of these three areas, always holding as its purpose to love, to serve, and to search for truth, with the Golden Rule as its highest value. A species that lives by the Golden Rule does not need wars — it needs schools, hospitals, and philosophers.
